Epoxy Marine Products for Boat Flooring
Conventional wood glues are typically water-based, and rely on penetrating into the grain of the wood, and then hardening once the water has evaporated. This leaves a bond that can sometimes be stronger than the wood itself. Then why do we make marine products like our epoxy glue when we install boat flooring? It’s because many tropical hardwoods – like teak – are naturally oily. So much so that they are almost waterproof. And such a small amount of the glue sinks down into the wood grain that it makes the wood essentially glue proof. Logic tells us that if the wood glue needs to penetrate the wood to bond, and oily wood presents a natural challenge to this happening, that some other adhesive needs to be used.
Epoxy for Teak Decks and Composite Decks
To solve this problem, we carry epoxy glue for boat flooring. When developing epoxy glue solutions for today’s decking professionals, we created two distinct types. One is a decking bond adhesive called Fit and Fairing Epoxy. The other is our general purpose Laminating Epoxy. Epoxy glue comes in two parts, one part resin with the other part being the activating or curing agent. These must be blended immediately before use and give a hard, seamless, and firmly adherent floor covering.
Fit and Fairing Epoxy
For installing teak flooring and boat flooring, we offer our Fit and Fairing Epoxy, which is a professional grade two-part thickened epoxy system. It is specifically designed for the installation of teak flooring onto ship decks and composite decking that require a permanent high strength epoxy glue bond. It is also ideal for fairing decks in order to level uneven surfaces and to provide a proper camber. Fit and Fairing Epoxy comes in a kit and is mixed 1:1 by volume ratio, which allows it to be easily measured and mixed in any size or quantity that may be required. The cure time is temperature dependent, but 24 hours is recommended.

We also carry a Laminating Epoxy, which serves as our general-purpose laminate and sealant. This is a professional grade 1:1 epoxy-laminating system, which is an easy-to-use liquid epoxy formulated for a wide variety of fabrication applications. It can be used for lamination, potting, gluing, sealing, etc. Its exceptional strength provides a range of performance benefits. Additionally, it can be sanded, drilled, tapped and painted. With a gel time of 30–40 minutes, this product allows plenty of work time. It has a thin film set time of 6–8 hours and a total cure time of 24–72 hours depending on the surrounding temperature.
